AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement on Texas’ constitutional right to defend itself following a federal judge granting the Biden Administration's motion for a preliminary injunction against Senate Bill 4, signed into law by the Governor in December 2023:

Lt. Governor Patrick Endorses Speaker Phelan’s Rival, Launches TV Ad Against Him

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has changed his mind about staying out of House Speaker Dade Phelan’s primary race. He is now backing Phelan’s challenger, David Covey, and running a television ad against Speaker Phelan in his district. Patrick said in a recent interview that Phelan “has to go” and that he is “heavily involved” in the race. He added, “When is the last time a lieutenant governor has ever been doing TV commercials in the speaker’s district — we’re supporting David Covey over there — to defeat him. That’s how bad it is.”

DPS Announces Leadership Promotions

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announces several changes at key leadership positions within the department. The promotions are a result of the retirement of Lieutenant Colonel Dwight Mathis on Jan. 31, after more than three decades of dedicated service.
