Department of Public Safety CID Special Agent Dustin Slovacek died in the line of duty of COVID-19 on September 12, 2021. He was stationed in Victoria, Texas. He is survived by an 8 year old daughter. The Texas DPS Troopers Foundation is raising money for the family to help with any financial needs. On August 17th, 2021, Texas DPS assisted with a multi-agency standoff with an armed suspect in Burleson county. The standoff occurred after the suspect shot a Burleson County Sheriff's Deputy attempting to serve a warrant on the suspect. A DPS-SRT team was called to the scene. Zachary Sanchez will graduate from class A-2021 167th Trooper Training class on Friday, July 30, 2021.
Zachary is the son of Texas State Trooper Moises Sanchez, who was shot in the line of duty in April of 2019 while investigating a hit and run crash in McAllen, Texas. He died from his wounds after fighting a brave battle on 24 August 2019.
DPSOA Scholarship Committee approves over $50,000 in scholarships to existing and college bound students

The DPSOA Scholarship Committee met in Austin on Friday the 25th of June and approved over $50,000 in scholarships for continuing and first time applications. Over 88 applications were received. The awards range in amounts of $500 for non-member applicants to $1100 for member applicants. The inaugural "Buddy Owles" memorial scholarship in the amount of $2000 was awarded to Reese Weatherford. On April 8th, 2021 for unclear reasons, an employee of the Kent Moore Cabinet Company in Bryan, Texas opened fire with a handgun on his co-workers which resulted in the death of one individual and the serious injury of several others.
