DPSOA Scholarship Committee approves over $50,000 in scholarships to existing and college bound students

The DPSOA Scholarship Committee met in Austin on Friday the 25th of June and approved over $50,000 in scholarships for continuing and first time applications. Over 88 applications were received. The awards range in amounts of $500 for non-member applicants to $1100 for member applicants. The inaugural  "Buddy Owles" memorial scholarship in the amount of $2000 was awarded to Reese Weatherford. A total of 60 scholarships were awarded. A huge thanks to the committee consisting of Wayne Williams, Veronica Gideon, Joe Cannon and Robert Zamorano who worked through the applications to insure those who qualified were granted these much needed funds to assist in their initial and continuing education. The DPS Troopers Foundation approved the financial award for the Association. The DPSTF is a 501(c)(3) and contributions are tax deductible. My congratulations to the scholarship recipients, thanks to the Foundation for their approval of funds and to the committee for their hard work!
